Starting MUAY THAI after 30: how to plan your training
Starting a new sport as an adult often brings practical questions: Can I fit lessons around work? Will I be the only beginner? Should I choose private or group training? Plan around your experience, goals and available time rather than age alone. Another student’s pace does not have to be your starting benchmark.
Define what you want to learn
Learning MUAY THAI techniques, making training part of your week and eventually joining a regular group are different goals. Tell the team about sports you have practised and your current experience. Having no martial arts background is useful information for planning a beginner programme, not something you need to hide.
Private coaching or a group?
MT STUDIO Beginner Training provides 12 hours of private coaching covering stance, guard, fundamental strikes, defensive principles and footwork. MT Adult Group training is intended for students who already have the fundamentals or have completed Beginner Training. Discuss your starting level with the team so the chosen programme matches your learning needs.
Build a realistic schedule
Check the programme’s usage period before committing to dates. Our beginner programme specifies one month and recommends planning around three sessions per week. Consider coach availability, travel time and your other commitments together. A branch you can reach regularly after work may suit you better than one that only looks closer on a map.
Track specific learning points
After a session, ask yourself what stance or guard correction you practised, what became clearer in your footwork and what you want to ask next time. Short notes make technical learning easier to follow. Rapid promises about weight, appearance or matching another student’s performance do not describe the curriculum. Progress varies between students.
Arrange a programme discussion
Contact our Bomonti branch on Istanbul’s European side or our Bostancı Clubsporium branch on the Asian side. Share your goals and available times, and ask about gloves, hand wraps and shin guards before buying equipment. If you have concerns about your health, discuss personal suitability with a qualified healthcare professional; a programme consultation is not a medical assessment.
